I can feel your excitement and anticipation all the way from down here.
You lucky people in the northern hemisphere springing your tanning lotion, flip-flops, bathers, tank tops and beach towels from their winter confinement. Of course we Aussies wear flip-flops (we call them thongs) all year around. Actually, most of don’t but it’s what we have you believe because we put the casual in laid back.
I’m reading all of these fantastic posts about the start of summer and Memorial Day weekend and thinking about our cold winter ahead.
Now, stop laughing my wonderful readers who live in Britain, United States and Canada. Yes, we don’t have snow where I live and yes, the cold really only lasts for three months of the year. But you see, my idea of cold is anything less than 20 degrees celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) and it looks like we are going to be in for a cold one.
So I’m warming up my hot chocolate, pulling on my woolen scarf and hoping to tantalize you with these pictures of late Autumn along the east coast of New South Wales. Mother nature at her colour palette best.

Autumn!
I absolutely love autumn! Winter is a close second. I personally think summer is just a reminder from God as to what hell is like and so it keeps me on the straight and narrow. I don’t like the hot, humid summer days… Enjoy your autumn and hopefully the winter will be kind. DAF

Seasons are kind of jumbled here in the Southern US. Summer can start as early as mid-April, and run until mid-October. The rest of the year is great, so that would be mid-autumn through mid-spring. Winter is cold and we get snow occasionally, but it’s nothing like it was in Chicago.
I’m with many of the other commenters–I love autumn. That being said, I’m happy to be starting summer around my neck of the woods. Great pictures, by the way!
Fall has to be the most beautiful season of all. The colors are just amazing! Love your pics. Global warming is going to be cruel to us at least for our grandchildren and their children I’m afraid. Love reading your writing.

Sounds kind of like Los Angeles. I’m freezing when the temperature starts staying below 60 F. There’s something to be said about all the seasons but I guess Spring is my overall favorite. I can recall calling flip flops thongs in the early 60s when I was living in San Diego. We used to sing “Waltzing Matilda” in school too. We must have had some kind of Aussie thing going on back then.

The weather is here exactly like LA, you nailed it. There was a big outcry a couple of decades ago here when they chose “Advance Australia Fair” over Waltzing Matilda as out national anthem. I’m hoping you still have your jumbuck in your tucker bag :).

Great pics! It’s funny but I never really considered “fall in Australia”. As in leaves turning and the temps dropping… like the Red Sox place in the American League East standings. (We are currently in last place again 5.5 games back and 3 full games behind the dreaded NY Yankees… uggg) Anyway, thanks for broadening my horizons so to speak by showcasing the beauty of autumn form down under. 🙂
Thanks Wendy. Yes, the Sox are falling like the Autumnal leaves here, but as my son says the AL East is a really tough league. We’ll real them back in… I’ve got faith!

Summer… definitely summer. I love the clear blue skies, hours of sunlight and heat… long days that mean you actually get something done! Or even if you’re doing nothing, time just feels like it stands still. Autumn and Winter just make me sad!

I love spring and autumn.
Spring: the smells of the earth warming up and the promise of rebirth, the air is charged with aromas. Summer: the smell of autumn leaves and the change in temperature give off a different smell of goodbyes.
I’ll have to find out the real name and get back to you on that one. To me it’s just called beauty.
Spring is not to be sneezed at…well, unless you are a hayfever sufferer :).
