If you’re anywhere near my vintage, you remember the immortal classic, Tip Toe Through The Tulips by Tiny Tim. Sung in a high, shrill voice and accompanied by the ukulele, it was a song that became popular despite itself with lines that you just couldn’t forget.
Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I’ll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with meOh, tiptoe from the garden
By the garden of the willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me
With the temperatures pushing upwards and the days becoming longer I decided to take a mid-week minivaccay and do some of my own tippy toeing through the tulips. Every spring, our nation’s capital, Canberra hosts a major garden event, Floriade. Commonwealth Park comes alive with carpets of tulips in a myriad of colours. The flowers are planted to create designs which can be viewed from up high in a ferris wheel.
The festival runs for a month and includes various activities such as gnome painting, circus training, music, wine tasting and eating. It signifies the coming of the warmer months and is a celebration of the good times ahead.
Below are some of my photos from Floriade which I hope convey the colours and the visuals of the display. It was a wonderful day in the sun, filled with warmth and the beauty of good friends and nature.

The view from atop the ferris wheel
Wishing you all a bloomin’ wonderful weekend!
Wow! That is an amazing view from the ferris wheel. We are entering a weekend of cooler temperatures and everything is coming up pumpkins. I intend to enjoy it!
Happy almost halloween. We have inherited that US tradition and the local kids will be trick or treating at the end of the month!
Wow! That should be loads of fun. I love seeing the creativity in the costumes. Enjoy!
Tiny Tim AND Miss Vicki…nothing better than bliss with a falsetto…
Your photos are beautiful!
Thanks you. Hmmm bliss with a falsetto, great name for a blog site!
Falsettos. Always under rated!
…and, thank you.
Gnome painting. Now there’s something I’ve never tried!
Very theraputic, particulalry if you are going up against 5 year olds 😉
The tulips are beautiful; their colours splashy. Your temperatures are getting warmer and in Canada, fall is in the air. For today, it feel refreshing but it’s a sure sign fall is here and winter is around the corner. Brr. Keep sending colour for good cheer. Appreciate this post and yes, I DO remember Tiny Tim, his tiptoeing through the tulips and marriage to Miss Vicky, which didn’t last did it. One song wonder and one quiet divorce?
Better a quiet divorce than a loud one! Hope you’re keeping warm and enjoying the Fall colours. Best thing has to be hot chocolate!
wow, these are stunning, so gorgeous that they almost don’t look real. Jealous that your days are getting longer and warmer…enjoy.
Yes, beautiful,. Looks just like my garden, really 🙂
Beautiful photos, love tulips, and also remember Tiny Tim singing the song about them… have thought of you all weekend… I have actually been able to wear my sweatshirts and jeans the past couple days… enjoy your spring!! DAF
Thanks DAF, hope getting reacquainted with your jeans and sweatshirts. I still haven’t ditched mine totally, but we are certainly heading in the right direction 🙂
And thanks for thinking of me. You’re so sweet x
I’m absolutely determined to visit Floriade one day. I have a friend who lives in Canberra, but she’s sworn to never take me because apparently I’m a serial flower picker.
Hi Inga, thanks for dropping by my site and leaving a comment. Love your dad’s blog. Will swing by yours too. And I won’t tell about the flower picking ;). You really do have to do Floriade at least once.
Cool pictures. Thanks for sharing. G’Day.
G’day OF. You’re turning into an Aussie before my very eyes! I’m gonna have to start calling you btgo before long (we always add a vowel to the end of a name, for those we respect ;))
Many thanks. It does make me sound like an old car, though. I think the Beach Boys had a song about a GTO. I would be proud to be a designated Aussie. Please note, with the adoption of Halloween, you now have to go to the dentist more often with the extra candy.
Take care, BTG(O)
